A poem about thinking

Sunbathing, belly facing skyward
I float focused up on only blue
squirting frivolity with my mouth
tickling direction with my toes
cruising in currents I cannot see. 

But beneath blue swim sharks
with hungry heads thrashing 
left-right, left-right, left-right
scenting out resistance like blood
working hard to keep control. 

The scariest thing is changing
turning belly down towards deep
blurred eyes beholding true terror
aching lungs sucking in unknown air
helpless leg kicking me wide awake.
